Hayden (Harden)

We had an intersting ride homeiwth Hardin who is now Hayden. My husband sat in the back set with Hayden (Hardin) and loved him up .  When we stopped 45 mins later I let Hayden out for a walk and he just layed down in the parking lot and wanted his stomach rubbed.  When we set off again my husband was in his car and I was alone with Hayden. My only problem was keeping Hayden in the back seat.  He kept coming into the passenger seat and going back and forth.I had to stop twice I thought he was going to come onto my lap!   By the time I made it home, he was calmer and staying in the back but wanted loving when he got out of the car.  He seem to be adjusting very well, except for the fact he has developed a paper phetish (ha ha), paper towels, napkins and tissue, he likes to chew them. I have a friend with a retiever (several years old) and she says he does the same thing!  I’m hoping it is a temporary adjustment and will pass as soon as he settles in  He is so sweet and lovable and our vet said he was in fine shape. He was very impressed.  .  He gave him some ear drops at our  first visit Sat. because they were red, but no ticks. We also gave him a lyme disease vacination on Sat. because we have so many deer around this year and I know our neighbor lost one of his dogs this year to lyme and I know 3 people in the area who also got it last summer. Kim did a great job at training him.  He really is pretty good on a lead and easier to walk than I expected .

Izzy

Just wanted to let you know Izzy is doing fine.  It only took a few days for her to get accustomed to her new home.  She understands now that when we go out for a walk we really are coming back home!  She enjoys her walks and is now playing and running with Jimmy our Jack Russell. Between the walks, chasing Jimmy and following all of us up and down the stairs to the second floor she will be down to an appropriate weight in no time.  She also sleeps with our son on his bed each night, and has become attached to him.  I have included some pictures of Izzy in her new home.

Maggie

I realized it had been awhile since my last Maggie-Mae update. Well the little rugrat is doing fantastic. She now weighs in at a hefty 24 pounds and her body has gotten longer. Those legs of hers are still short… :) I am considering doing one of those DNA tests on her to figure out exactly what breeds of dogs she has in her. Who knows? :)
Maggie came to the humane society with me today and was my assistant in puppy class. She was SO good! She actually has a new boyfriend (her list of boyfriends is growing) named Winston. He is a 14 week old blocky black lab puppy and the two of them played so well together. Maggie has such beautiful body language with other dogs and it is a pleasure to watch her interact with dogs of all sizes. Her other new buddy is a 5 month old Newfie! Oh and we can’t forget to mention Louie, the Chihuahua that belongs to one of the veterinarians. The two of them romp and play all morning long at the clinic. :) Maggie is picking up on sitting for treats and toys and her play biting is beginning to improve. I think she has Corgi in her so some of the nipping might be breed related. Oh well… she is doing well. Maggie is also learning how to do a relaxed down and how to stay. I have Oliver, my Plotthound, do a down or stay and Maggie will watch what he does and copy him. :)
Oliver is being such a great big brother! He loves to play with her in the snow and the two of them were wrestling on the bed (yes, the little short rugrat can pull herself up on our bed now) last night. They are a very good match for one another. I took both dogs on a hike at the local wildlife refuge last week and Maggie dragged a 30 foot long line behind her. She had so much fun because she was able to go up ahead of me on the trail and romp around trees with Oliver, but I didn’t have to worry about losing her. Long lines are wonderful!!!! She loves to play hide-n-seek too and is getting really good about keeping tabs on where I am and coming when called. It helps because Oliver has a really good recall.

Sadie

Here’s our new dog! We’re calling her Sadie - her real name was Lady, but it was just too strange for us! She’s a very good girl. Calm, sweet, gentle and very very submissive.
She needs to learn commands - we’re working on “sit” and “come” right now. We think she’s never been on a proper walk, as she doesn’t even know that word! Can you imagine? Poor little thing.
She’s really adorable and just groans and groans with these happy sounds when she’s found a comfortable spot - she’s currently sleeping on the floor right next to me.
We had a tough couple of days with Koty - he was NOT at all thrilled about having another dog here, but today - so far so good! He sniffed her a couple times and has not growled or even acted upset in any way, so we’re making good progress!
Will keep you all posted!
Take care,
Lisa
